Belgian Mastiff, or Chien de Trait Belge, is an extinct Belgian draught and guard breed. Despite its extinct status, it is still explicitly listed in Ukraine's current dangerous dog breed list.
The Belgian Mastiff (Chien de Trait Belge) was a large Belgian molosser used to pull small carts and as a guard dog. It historically held FCI standard No. 69, but was removed from the nomenclature and is considered extinct. 'Belgian Mastiff' remains explicitly listed in Ukraine's current dangerous dog breed list.
Historical descriptions portray the breed as calm, obedient, very strong and capable of guarding carts and loads.
The breed is extinct, so modern care guidance is not applicable. Historically it had a short coat requiring little grooming.
